When they disappear, you are now in control of the car and the start/finish line is not far away. The game is controlling the car for you to begin with, as a series of five red lights will turn off one by one. Select Go To Track, then Flying Lap and you will be immediately out on track a short distance and maybe a couple of turns out from the start/finish line. Next you will find yourself sitting in your car in the team garage on pit lane. After loading is complete, the Start Session option becomes available - so select it now. Having the Dynamic Racing Line option enabled is a very good guide to follow for when to start braking and with how much force. Any form of braking assistance will slow you down significantly more than necessary and probably will make driving feel strange. My one recommendation would be to select Preferences, then select Assists, and adjust Braking Assist to Off. The defaults are largely fine to leave as is. For future reference, on any loading screen you can press the button to bring up the settings menu, and this gives you the opportunity to review and change the Session Setup, Preferences and Weather & Time of Day options. Make sure Dry is selected and that the selected circuit is Australia (it should be by default) and then advance to start loading your first Time Trial session. For future reference, note that you can toggle between Dry and Wet weather conditions using and on this screen. Select Modern F1 Cars, advance to the team selection screen and select Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, then advance to the circuit selection screen. From the main menu, select Time Trial to advance to the era selection screen.
